Pay For Content? We need oyster card for online payment (or one touch shopping)

(First off, I will apologise if this is retreading old ground, I have not read anything on this subject and want to see if anyone else has similar opinions or other ideas). There has been a lot of discussion recently about the concept of paying for content and various websites (namely those operated and owned by Rupert Murdoch) starting to charge for full access to their website content, either through subscription models or one time usage charges. There has been a lot of comments and discuss....

So who (or what) is visiting your website?

Update I have updated this post with the results of what happened once I url shortened the post and posted it to twitter at the bottom. Awhile back, I submitted one of my posts to reddit and stumbleupon and a few of the social content websites. I then checked out my google analytics account the next day and was pretty pleased when it said I'd had 70-odd visits from reddit in less than a day. However, it also said that the average visit time was 0 seconds. This didn't seem like the visit behavio....

Twitter, Subscriptions and other technical improvements

A lot of changes have been going on with this site in the last couple of weeks, some small subtle changes and some slightly more obvious. As previously documented, this site is now operating on bluehost hosting, but the changes I am referring to are on the website itself. First off, as you may have noticed, the site is now using nice user friendly urls. This is better a) for me, b) for you guys reading and c) for google in terms of Search Engine Optimisation, so that's a case of everybody wins.....

Migration complete

You may or may not have noticed that mysweetshadow.co.uk has been down for the majority of the day. That is because I have shifted the site from my account on Prime Hosting to my Bluehost account. This is mainly due to the fact I will be adding a lot more photos to the website soon and my prime hosting account only allows me 500mb of space. Bluehost in comparison offers unlimited space, so the move made a lot of sense. I am very impressed with the very short length of time it took for the domai....

A lot of spam

I have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes on this site recently, working on the blog archives so that they could actually be filtered so anyone using the site was not stuck just with the most recent entry that they could access via the front page. The filtering page now makes use of AJAX updates, so it is very easy for anyone to filter the entries, either by category or by date range. However, when filtering using my new code, I discovered one of the blog posts had 29 comments (it prev....

Technical Improvements

As mentioned in brief at the top of the home page, I finally got round to converting the site to be using OO PHP 5. It is my intention to further develop my blog manager class to provide a wide array of methods for handling different types of blog/news display, including the handling of comments. But the fact the site is now running off the class and making good use of the first handful of methods means I must be doing something right :). I have spent most of the day cursing the Drupal 5 simplen....
