Twitter, Subscriptions and other technical improvements

A lot of changes have been going on with this site in the last couple of weeks, some small subtle changes and some slightly more obvious. As previously documented, this site is now operating on bluehost hosting, but the changes I am referring to are on the website itself.

First off, as you may have noticed, the site is now using nice user friendly urls. This is better a) for me, b) for you guys reading and c) for google in terms of Search Engine Optimisation, so that's a case of everybody wins. Learning how to carry out .htaccess redirects is initially very frustrating, but very satisfying when they start working. The other great bonus is it is very much one of those subjects where once you have learned how to do it once, you know how to do it for every future occurence (exceptions permitting).

More importantly for everyone else, it is now possible to subscribe to my postings. You even have a choice of RSS or via email. I've really moved into the 21st century now. Apologies if there are any bugs with the RSS, outside of Drupal I am quite inexperienced with creating RSS feeds so there may be a few bugs still to work out.

I've also hopped on the bandwagon and joined Twitter. I am actually finding it very useful in terms of a promotional tool, and also for finding interesting articles on content about topics that are relevant to me, both from a professional and personal point of view as in the last 2 days I have found or had appear in my twitter home page good articles on SEO, Drupal, Dream Theater and Tennis to name 4 examples. To this end, I have added the "tweet this" link alongside the subscribing options. I am currently experimenting with various Twitter API code so watch this space for further tweeting developments.

At the advice of my friend Ashe, I also gave the subscription options section a bit of a cosmetic makeover, thanks mate, I do agree it looks so much better now.
